Dear iMesh Users,

Due to an error in the latest Symantec Live Update, Symantec's Norton Anti Virus is wrongfully identifying a certain iMesh component as Spyware. iMesh has contacted Symantec who is working on a fix that will be available shortly. This problem with Norton Anti Virus is affecting a wide range of software products from multiple software vendors.

iMesh is totally 100% spyware free and is, and always was, safe to use.

Please run Symantec's Live Update and get the latest security definitions and then re-install iMesh. If this does not help, please call Symantec at the following numbers:

  • From Canada +1 (416) 441-3676
  • From the United Kingdom +44 1628 592 222
  • From the United States: +1 (800) 441-7234

We have attched Symantec's response to this matter, as you can see they have admitted they have made a mistake and will update their next set of virus definitions accordingly:

Quote:

"This Email is in relation to your recent submission through Symantec's on-line False Positive Dispute Submission form for the file Actskn45.ocx and Imesh being detected by Symantec software as a security risk. In light of further investigation and analysis Symantec has found the file actskn45.ocx and Imesh to not be a security risk and are happy to remove detection from within its products.

The updated detection will be distributed in the next set of virus definitions, available daily or weekly via LiveUpdate, depending on Symantec product version, or daily from our website at
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/defs.download.html.

Decisions made by Symantec are subject to change if alterations to the Software are made over time or as classification criteria and/or the policy employed by Symantec changes over time to address the evolving landscape.
Sincerely,

Symantec Security Response
